Hollywood Blockbuster Research

Purpose of Research

The purpose of our research is to discover what made other films popular to the general public and what made them successful in the blockbuster.

We are looking to create a film for Hollywood and make it very successful. To do this we will research in finding a variety of different actors/actresses and find out if they are willing to play the role suited from their previous films. We will also be looking into a budget to support our Hollywood Blockbuster film.

Also, the purpose of research is to look into different types of storylines and script that relate to the same genre to capture what makes their scenes out bringing.

For example, Scream has created a trilogy over the years bringing their audience with the masked criminal. What makes it so good is the mask. The mask makes the audience mesmerised with his look and his primary weapon, a sharp gleaning knife.

Primary Research

I will be creating questionnaires and surveys for the public to complete.

I will be asking people’s opinions on different subjects to do with the film industry.

I will ask people if I could interview them to ask them questions in front of a camera to log what they say and what their personal preferences are.

Throughout the history of cinema the centre of the film industry in the United States of America has always been in Hollywood. Located in Los Angeles, Southern California, there were a number of initial factors which made Hollywood the ideal place to centralise such a business. Principal among these was the Mediterranean-type climate that provided long, bright sunny days, which was important for perfect lighting conditions in early cinema (Cooper, Hall and Wannamaker 2008). As time progressed, camera and lighting technologies improved and these reasons for the location’s prominence in the industry no longer existed, and yet Hollywood has prevailed. Not only has it retained its dominance in the US market but it has also gained more and more of the world’s film market, to become the dominant location in the industry at an international level. The centralisation of talent, technology and resources are all contributing factors to why the film industry remains so firmly located in Hollywood but another key factor, that is critical to Hollywood’s continued dominance, is capital.

 Secondary Research

The majority of my research will come from secondary sources such as, books, newspapers, magazines and the internet. The internet will likely have the most up to date box office figures and articles on popular films.

Books on the history of films could also be useful but it will have less recent information.

Newspapers might only have opinions of certain people and may not be factual. This could also be the same with magazines.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

“‘Catching Fire’ begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
